Today his words resonate even more deeply. We live in an age of noise and division. And we recognise art is not just for beauty or entertainment but it serves a central role in our society and in the common human experience. It is a powerful vehicle for diverse ideas and expressions that inspire us, challenge us and heal us."

"As a result, the number of schools that offer creative art teach"
A star-studded ceremony in Tokyo honoured this year’s Praemium Imperiale laureates at the Meiji Kinenkan hall, with Princess Hitachi presenting gold medals. The 2025 laureates named in July include Peter Doig (painting), Marina Abramović (sculpture), Eduardo Souto de Moura (architecture), András Schiff (music) and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (theatre/film). Each laureate received a medal and 15 million Yen (about £77,000). Attendees included international advisers such as Hillary Rodham Clinton, Lord Patten and Lamberto Dini, alongside previous laureates Hiroshi Sugimoto and Lee Ufan. Clinton emphasised art’s unifying, challenging and healing role, while Dini warned that education systems prioritise industry skills, reducing creative arts teaching and calling for more support for art education.
