morag myerscough brings bold-colored spatial installation 'chasing sunbeams' to australia
"The installation is conceived as an environment shaped by local input and responses to the natural setting. Developed through community workshops, the project incorporates patterns, colors, and narratives gathered from Ballarat residents. The resulting structure forms an immersive spatial composition in which graphic elements, handcrafted components, and layered surfaces define the visitor experience. Myerscough aimed to use materials that are either sustainable or recyclable where possible."
"Sound plays a central role in the installation, created by artist Morag Myerscough. Recordings from approximately 40 local participants, ranging in age from three to seventy-five, were integrated into an audio composition by sound designer and musician Raul Sanchez. The soundscape combines musical tones, field recordings, and individual spoken words collected during the workshops. These elements are arranged to form a shifting acoustic environment that changes continuously as it moves through the space."
Morag Myerscough's Chasing Sunbeams is a large-scale installation in Ballarat, Victoria, on view through November 23, 2025. Community workshops gathered patterns, colors, and narratives from Ballarat residents to inform the work. The structure creates an immersive spatial composition where graphic motifs, handcrafted components, and layered surfaces define the visitor experience. Materials were selected to be sustainable or recyclable where possible. Sound designer Raul Sanchez integrated recordings from about 40 local participants, aged three to seventy-five, into a soundscape. The audio mixes musical tones, field recordings, and spoken words into a continuously shifting acoustic environment. The project serves as the inaugural commission for Sunnyside, presented November 6–23, 2025.
