Square dancing is a traditional American folk dance featuring many turns and coordinated moves and offering physical activity and social engagement. The Houston area supports more than a dozen square dancing groups, including the Bluebonnet Squares based near Spring, Texas. Phil Henderson is the group's past president. Square dancing fosters friendships and has led some participants to marry. Geraldine Gregor has danced for 52 years and finds the activity fulfilling and beneficial. Local groups use Facebook to share upcoming gatherings. The 75th National Square Dance Convention will take place in Waco June 24-27, 2026.
