"As an artist, having the freedom to create without boundaries is incredibly rare. That's why I reference the Sistine Chapel-not to compare myself to Michelangelo, but to evoke that moment in history when an artist was entrusted with complete creative freedom to interpret humanity as it was understood at the time,"
"The opportunity to contribute to a project of this scale, and to create something that may endure beyond our time, is what truly excites me. It's the chance to build without limits, and to aim for something timeless."
"the Middle Eastern version of the Sistine Chapel."
Spanish artist Domingo Zapata will create a mural in Saudi Arabia spanning about 540,000 square feet, roughly the size of nine football fields. A team of roughly 100 artists, engineers, and architects will execute the work over an expected five to six years, following two years of planning. The project aims for monumental scale and enduring impact, evoking the freedom and historical significance associated with masterworks like the Sistine Chapel. Zapata has prior large-scale works, including a Wynwood Walls mural and a 15-story One Times Square vinyl, and maintains a roster of high-profile clients and notable commissions.
