""We are not currently working with Alma Allen, and we don't have any involvement in or information about his current or future projects.""
Alma Allen, a Utah-born sculptor living in Mexico, will represent the United States at the 2026 Venice Biennale. The United States pavilion will present site-responsive sculptures that explore the concept of "elevation" as both a physical manifestation of form and a symbol of collective optimism and self-realization, aligned with the Trump Administration's emphasis on showcasing American excellence. The selection cycle faced complications after the introduction of presidential guidelines restricting diversity, equity, and inclusion and mandating promotion of American exceptionalism. Allen alleged that two former representing galleries asked him not to take the commission and subsequently dropped him. Both galleries confirmed they no longer represent Allen but declined to link their departures to the commission. The pavilion, titled "Alma Allen: Call Me the Breeze," is organized by commissioner Jodi Parido.
