What a bank-client relationship looks like when banks control the data behind the UX - Tearsheet
""We learned people were uploading their bank statements or transaction files to their [external] AI of choice to run AI-analysis on their finances," says Nate Gruendemann, Director of Product at Grasshopper. "MCP technology is how we close that gap.""
""In practice, this allows us to expose meaningful financial context while keeping the core banking system insulated," notes Gruendemann."
""We secure the banking infrastructure and access layer, while clients maintain control over how they use their chosen AI tools," adds Gruendemann."
Grasshopper launched the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to allow clients to use AI tools with their financial data securely. MCP acts as a bridge between banking systems and AI models, managing authentication and data structuring. Clients must opt-in and authenticate their AI access, ensuring that AI tools can analyze data without modifying it. This design prioritizes security and client control, allowing meaningful financial insights while keeping the banking infrastructure insulated from untrusted AI environments.
