The Only Painting van Gogh Ever Sold: Discover The Red Vineyard (1888)
Briefly

During his short artistic career, Vincent van Gogh sold only one painting, La vigne rouge, also known as The Red Vineyard. This work was inspired by a landscape observed during a walk with Paul Gauguin on October 28, 1888. Van Gogh's description of the scene included vibrant colors, noting a completely red vineyard, a yellowish distance, and a green sky. Although he was inspired by the setting, he painted the vineyard from memory the following month. Van Gogh died impoverished and largely unrecognized, despite his later fame.
"Vincent described the scene thus: A red vineyard, completely red like red wine. In the distance it became yellow, and then a green sky with a sun..."
"The painting depicts a landscape van Gogh came across on a late afternoon walk with Paul Gauguin on 28 October 1888, five days after his friend's arrival in Arles."
