Malaysia's communications regulator imposed a temporary restriction on Jan. 11 after repeated misuse to generate obscene, sexually explicit, indecent, grossly offensive, and non-consensual manipulated images. Notices were issued to X and xAI-Grok in early January, but responses were judged insufficient to prevent harm or ensure legal compliance. X limited image generation to paying users on Jan. 9 and xAI responded to inquiries with the text "Legacy Media Lies."
