"Maybe one day we'll be working less hard, but having wonderful lives,"
"If it does happen too fast for society, which is possible, we can't assimilate all those people that quickly,"
"My guess is the developed world will be working three and a half days a week in 20, 30, 40 years,"
"You're going to have agents that do research for you every time you wake up in the morning,"
AI could improve productivity and living standards and eventually allow people to work less while enjoying better lives. The technology will eliminate jobs even if not dramatically within the next year, creating displacement that does not preclude new employment opportunities. Workers should emphasize critical thinking, communication, and emotional intelligence to transition into other roles. Rapid AI adoption risks outpacing society's ability to retrain and assimilate displaced workers. Governments, companies, and communities should phase adoption and invest in training and planning to prevent widespread harm during the transition. AI may also shrink the workweek and augment daily research and tasks.
