Survey responses from 5,000 global technology professionals and more than 100 hours of qualitative interviews support the findings. Developers and related professionals spend a median of two hours per day using AI in core workflows. AI tools are being used to generate and review code, write documentation, create test cases, and analyze data. Software engineering roles are shifting toward building and prototyping products in addition to writing code. Product managers can use AI to write specifications and rapidly build prototypes. Knowing programming languages remains critical.
