The rapid race to dominate AI has driven extraordinary valuations and frenetic, near-daily dealmaking. Massive capital expenditures for data centers and infrastructure create pressure on companies to demonstrate sustainable business models that can recoup investments. Probabilistic AI systems have inherent technical limitations that make delivering superintelligence unlikely. Despite those limits, AI technology is expected to persist, flourish, and have substantial effects across industries. Given the combination of extreme valuations, heavy capital needs, and technical constraints, a correction in AI investment markets appears fairly likely.
