Tesla plans to restart Dojo3 and dedicate the third-generation AI chip effort to space-based AI compute. The original Dojo project was shut down months earlier after the Dojo team was disbanded and lead departures occurred. About 20 former Dojo workers joined DensityAI, an AI infrastructure startup founded by ex-Dojo staff. Tesla had shifted toward greater reliance on Nvidia, AMD and Samsung while pausing some custom silicon work. The in-house AI5 chip design is described as in good shape and was made by TSMC for driving features and Optimus. A $16.5 billion Samsung deal will produce AI6 chips. Tesla is recruiting engineers at AI_Chips@Tesla.com to rebuild the team.
