Isak and Gyokeres named in Sweden World Cup squad
"A very, very difficult decision in terms of where he [Kulusevski] has been and what he's done over the last year, where he's at in terms of his rehab with four and a half weeks to go to that first game,"
"We obviously hope he finishes the season in Liverpool with some game time,"
"Our challenge is to get Alex in the best moment of the season and for him to hit top form, because if he does, he's a world-class player."
"Sweden endured a miserable qualifying campaign, finishing bottom of their group with two points, but their performance in the Nations League gave them a second chance and wins over Ukraine and Poland in the play-offs took them to the finals."
Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak have been selected for Sweden’s World Cup squad. Dejan Kulusevski, a Tottenham forward, is not included because he has not played this season and is recovering from a knee injury. Sweden coach Graham Potter said the decision was difficult given Kulusevski’s situation and rehab timeline with only four and a half weeks remaining before the first match. Isak has also faced injuries and has started eight league matches for Liverpool since his record transfer from Newcastle. Potter said Sweden wants Isak to finish the season with game time and reach top form. Sweden qualified after a poor group stage, using Nations League performance and play-off wins over Ukraine and Poland.
