Farmers in Vermont expected a sheep to have twins. She ended up having rare sextuplets.

"Anne O'Connor expressed her surprise at the birth of six lambs, stating, 'I was a little bit suspicious, just given how big she was and that she was going a little earlier, that she might have more than two.'"

"Sources vary on the rarity of sheep giving birth to sextuplets, with O'Connor estimating it at 1 in 1,000, while some agricultural websites suggest it could be as rare as one in a million."

"Kristen Judkins noted the care required for lambs born in large numbers, saying, 'They do take longer to reach full body weight, but most do just fine. You have to keep an eye on them for the first few weeks to make sure they are getting enough to eat.'"

A sheep at Clover & Bee Farm in Underhill, Vermont, gave birth to six lambs, a rare event in sheep breeding. The ewe had previously given birth to quadruplets. While a checkup suggested two lambs, the actual number surprised the owner, Anne O'Connor. Estimates of the occurrence of sextuplets vary, with O'Connor suggesting 1 in 1,000. The lambs are named in Finnish, and the O'Connors plan to keep four ewes while finding homes for the two males. The farm also raises sheep for wool and grows herbs and berries.
