"When life gets stressful, one of the oldest tried and true remedies comes from the calming scent of flowers. Lavender is at the top of that list, and when it's an entire field of lavender it can waft our troubles away with both the sight and aroma. Petaluma residents can see and enjoy such a visage on Chapman Lane where the Lavender Bee Farm has been enchanting locals and international guests for many years."

Lavender Bee Farm on Chapman Lane in Petaluma features expansive lavender fields whose scent and sight soothe visitors. JoAnn and Richard Wallenstein own and operate the farm and retail store, where they restock displays and process buds. JoAnn grew up on the property after her parents purchased it in 1947. The family historically raised vegetables and maintained a chicken ranch in the 1950s with about 5,000 chickens. Childhood memories center on 4-H projects including sheep and a horse project, leading to membership in local riding and drill teams. JoAnn later raised daughters who participated in dairy and replacement heifer programs and sold calves at local fairs, creating two generations of fair involvement.
