"The first clues have arrived as to what the future new stadium for AC Milan and Inter will be like when finally built. In case you missed the big news, the Milan City Council voted to approve the sale of the current San Siro and surrounding area to the two clubs. They then plan to build a new home next to the existing structure, which will be partly demolished as part of an area regeneration plan."
"We are at the beginning of a journey that must respect the legacy of this historic stadium but also create something new. It's an extraordinary project. Two teams, two owners, the city, and an exceptional iconic structure. But the historical moment tells us that there is inevitably a need for a new stadium. Everyone has a strong interest in this, including the fans."
The Milan City Council approved the sale of San Siro and adjacent land to AC Milan and Inter. The two clubs plan to construct a new stadium adjacent to the existing San Siro, with part of the current structure to be demolished as part of a broader area regeneration scheme. Two architects, including Norman Foster, have been chosen to design the new stadium and have begun offering initial design clues focused on balancing respect for the historic stadium's legacy with new architectural creation. Foster met with Mayor Beppe Sala, representatives of Oaktree and RedBird, and club presidents during the sale finalisation, expected within two to three weeks.
