This year, donations are significantly down for the Christmas in the Park toy drive, with only 10 toys collected so far compared to the previous years' 200-300 toys.
Organizer Karen Chung expressed her heartbreak over the low contributions, saying, 'I was crying because I didn't know what to do. I didn't want kids to be left out and disappointed.'
Chung considered using her own money to buy more presents, saying, 'I was willing to use my own money...just so the kids can have something for the holidays.'
The toy drive, in its 18th year, was initiated to honor the late Oakland Police Officer Stan Mock and is supported by local organizations like the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce.
