Since January, just 10 subway stations have received metal barriers designed to prevent deadly falls and shoves onto the tracks, leaving commuters frustrated.
Other straphangers questioned the railings' effectiveness, noting they still left a wide gap for falls, jumps and shoves, which might not improve safety.
The platform railing pilot was initiated amid safety pressures after high-profile incidents, yet many riders feel the barriers are still inadequate.
MTA officials are exploring costly full-sized platform doors but opted for these low-cost barriers as an initial measure amidst budget constraints.
