A large Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is expected to hit the earth's atmosphere this weekend, potentially allowing the Northern Lights to be seen in a large portion of the United States, including New York.
Geomagnetic storms triggered by Coronal Mass Ejections can cause spectacular displays of the Northern Lights, with this event possibly making them visible as far south as Alabama and Northern California.
