Many pilot whales die, dozens rescued after mass stranding in Australia
Briefly

At least 26 long-finned pilot whales have died, but several others were rescued, after 160 of them were stranded over a large area in Western Australia.
Footage from the area showed wildlife preservation teams and local authorities joined by many volunteers to help them get back to deeper waters.
Once fully beached, whales usually have to be euthanised as that would be the most humane outcome.
Some researchers think pods go off track after feeding too close to shore, and stranding incidents may be linked to underwater noise pollution caused by humans.
