Exploitation of vulnerabilities almost tripled as a source of data breaches last year

Attacks exploiting vulnerabilities surged 180% in the past year, attributed to zero-day vulnerabilities used by ransomware actors, exemplified by the significant MOVEit hack.

Verizon identified 1,567 breach notifications related to MOVEit, marking it as one of the largest ransomware attacks. Unlike log4j, MOVEit impacted less mature companies, notably impacting the education sector the most.
