Everything you need to know about the new Champions League format
Briefly

Uefa approved changes for the Champions League format with a new league phase involving 36 clubs, offering more opportunities for teams to compete.
Teams in the top eight will advance directly to the last 16, while those in the 9th-24th positions will participate in knockout play-offs, and teams below 25th will be eliminated.
The number of matches will rise to 189 in the new format, with teams playing a minimum of eight and a maximum of 17, and the league phase will conclude at the end of January.
Champions League fixtures will still be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in standard weeks but will extend to Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in weeks exclusive to the competition.
