George Funky Brown, drummer for Kool & the Gang, has died at age 74 after battling lung cancer.

Brown was a founding member of the band, co-wrote their biggest hits, and was still actively involved in their most recent album.

He began his music career playing jazz before transitioning to funk and disco with Kool & the Gang. [ more ]

Brown co-wrote some of the band's biggest hits including Celebration, Ladies' Night, and Jungle Boogie.
