New contractor appointed for next phase of works at north Wicklow estate

Wicklow County Council has appointed a contractor to complete remaining window and door replacement works at the Farrankelly estate near Delgany. Residents have reported leaks and heat-loss problems for more than a decade, and phase 1 was completed last year. Phase 2 stalled while the council sought additional funding and ran a new tender process. Council officials confirmed the tender has concluded and the contractor is in place, but warned that the appointment starts a multi-step process. The contractor will measure first, then order, with manufacturing and delivery expected to take five to six weeks before installation. The council aims to complete the work during summer and will provide updates to councillors.

"In relation to Farrankelly, we have tendered a contractor for the remaining windows and doors. A contractor has been appointed. His next job will be to measure and then to order. I believe it takes five to six weeks to get the windows made and delivered. And then they'll be installed."

"Mr Nicholson said the council is "conscious of getting all that work done in the summer" and hopes that "in a matter of a couple of months all the windows and doors will be done". He committed to keeping councillors updated as the work progresses and noted that the new contractor is not the same firm that carried out phase 1."

"However, councillors have been warned that the change of contractor and the manufacturing lead-in time mean the project is operating within a narrow summer window, raising concerns about further slippage after years of frustration for residents. At the local authority's May monthly meeting, Cllr Lourda Scott welcomed progress on the long-running issue, but pressed officials for clarity on delivery dates."
