Fourteen zero-carbon eco houses will be constructed by the Gŵyr Community Land Trust to provide affordable housing solutions for local families, including those currently in temporary accommodations.
The grant funds for the project will cover planning applications for homes to be built on one-third of a 6-acre site in Bishopston, with the remaining land designated for communal use like orchards and green spaces accessible to everyone.
Residents of the Gŵyr CLT can acquire up to 65% leasehold of their homes, with values linked to local wages, ensuring they are affordable and cannot be sold to individuals without housing needs or local connections.
The Gŵyr Community Land Trust was founded in 2020 by locals discontent with the rental market and housing waitlists, emphasizing the goal of providing affordable housing through a shared ownership model.
