A $350 IKEA Hack Transformed This "Drab" Dining Room - Now It Seats 10
A corner of a living room was repurposed into a dining area for family meals and hosting. The original space had popcorn ceilings, wood paneling, and stained carpeting, and it felt visually dull. A low-budget renovation used DIY work and about $350, excluding flooring and drywall/paint done elsewhere in the home. Two IKEA KALLAX units were arranged to form an L-shaped bench with built-in storage. The storage was placed within the bench by turning the units on their backs, adding trim to the sides, and topping the structure with wood as a lid. Multiple coats of poly seal were recommended due to heavy toddler use, including spills and dirty feet. Second-hand finds were used to keep additions budget-friendly.

So I opted to turn the bookcases on their backs so the storage is on top, and then I added some trim to the sides and topped it with wood to act as a lid," she says."
"She's pleased with the bench but says she suggests two or more coats of poly seal to anyone doing a similar project. "My toddler sits there regularly," she says. "Spills, crayons, dirty feet - it gets the brunt of it." Second-Hand Finds Turned into Budget-Friendly Additions Alexis also saved money on her revamp by sourcing t"
