Jessie Stapleton and Hayley Nolan have been named again in the Republic of Ireland squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against the Netherlands and France. Both missed the April double-header against Poland due to injury, when Ireland earned six points. Denise O’Sullivan and Emily Murphy are included but will miss the home match because of suspension. Aoibheann Clancy remains in the 25-player squad and is the only player from the Premier Division set-up. Katie McCabe returns after announcing she will leave Arsenal after 11 years and is expected to captain the team. Ireland play the Netherlands at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on 5 June and then face France four days later, aiming to finish top of the group for automatic qualification.
"The Republic of Ireland are aiming to finish top of the group and qualify for the World Cup in Brazil automatically rather than having to compete in the play-offs, which they have already qualified for. Carla Ward's side sit third in League A2, while the Netherlands currently sit top of the group and are unbeaten so far in this qualifying tournament."
