Commanders OTAs could reveal first real shape of Jayden Daniels protection plan
Washington enters the 2026 season with uncertainty at center after releasing Tyler Biadasz as a cap casualty. The team pursued other options in free agency but failed to land Tyler Linderbaum, leaving Nick Allegretti projected as the starter and Matt Gulbin as the backup. Allegretti previously started all 17 games in 2024 at left guard, then moved down the depth chart after roster changes. He later stepped in at center in Week 18 when Biadasz missed time with a knee injury, earning enough trust to be considered viable for snapping to Jayden Daniels. The plan carries low upside and high risk, while Gulbin is expected to exceed draft expectations based on college performance and scouting praise.
"Biadasz was an average starter during his two seasons in Washington, but Allegretti is far from a guarantee to even be that. He makes for an ideal plug-and-play backup due to his versatility around the line. Trusting him to be anything more is a dangerous game."
