Will the Texas primary run-off give Democrats a chance to flip the state?

Texas voters are choosing a Republican nominee in a runoff between Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Senator John Cornyn. The winner will face Democratic nominee James Talarico in November’s midterm election. Democrats have not held a statewide seat in Texas since 1994, but statewide races have become increasingly close over the last decade. Paxton, endorsed by President Donald Trump, is known for challenging Big Tech and for emphasizing border security, including plans to complete a border wall. He has also pledged tax cuts and investment in cryptocurrency development. Trump criticized Cornyn as insufficiently supportive during difficult times, while Cornyn has aligned closely with Trump on immigration and border security.
