Joe Bowen to receive honorary Doctor of Laws degree from University of Windsor

Joe Bowen will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Windsor during the Spring 2026 Convocation ceremonies on June 3. Bowen served as the Toronto Maple Leafs’ play-by-play announcer from the 1982-83 season onward and completed his final season in that role. He was recognized by the Maple Leafs through multiple tributes, including Holy Mackinaw Night on December 16 and a standing ovation during the final home game against the Dallas Stars on April 13. Maple Leafs players and Bowen described the impact of his career and the widespread messages of support he received. Bowen is a Windsor alumnus, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1973, and previously won the 2018 Foster Hewitt Memorial Award.

It's another tremendous honour for Bowen, who is one of the unmistakable voices of hockey. Bowen was previously named as the 2018 winner of the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award, granted by the Hockey Hall of Fame for outstanding broadcasting contributions to hockey."
