Could Adam Foote emerge as a coaching option for the Maple Leafs?

The Maple Leafs are seeking a new head coach after Craig Berube. Manny Malhotra was considered a potential successor, but Vancouver’s firing of Adam Foote could shift Malhotra’s path by prompting a promotion from the AHL to the NHL. With Malhotra likely unavailable, Toronto may consider other candidates such as David Carle and Bruce Cassidy. If those options do not materialize, Foote could be evaluated despite limited NHL head-coaching tenure. Foote coached Vancouver for one season and was dismissed along with his staff, while Vancouver’s poor season may not have been solely his responsibility. With proper support in Toronto, Foote could potentially help the team become more defensively responsible.

"So, it is reasonable to think that Foote could have plenty of tread left on his tires. And he could be the sort of coach who might offer a balanced approach to the Maple Leafs' lineup. Foote is by no means the sexiest name out there. But he would be enough to keep the wolves at bay. It wouldn't be out of the question to believe that Foote, put in the right situation, could thrive."
