A historic building in downtown Bowmanville suffered extensive damage from a fire that broke out early Thursday morning. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find flames on the third floor and quickly worked to contain the blaze, which spread to the attic. The building, over a century old, housed both businesses and residential units, complicating the firefighting efforts due to its maze-like structure. While many residents were evacuated, one person remains unaccounted for. The Ontario Fire Marshal will begin an investigation, and support services are assisting displaced residents.
