Historic building in downtown Bowmanville badly damaged by major blaze | CBC News
Briefly

A historic building in downtown Bowmanville suffered extensive damage from a fire that broke out early Thursday morning. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find flames on the third floor and quickly worked to contain the blaze, which spread to the attic. The building, over a century old, housed both businesses and residential units, complicating the firefighting efforts due to its maze-like structure. While many residents were evacuated, one person remains unaccounted for. The Ontario Fire Marshal will begin an investigation, and support services are assisting displaced residents.
The building is at least a century old and has businesses at street level and residential units on the second and third stories, complicating firefighting efforts.
Clarington Fire Chief Dave Speed noted, "It's a bit of a maze in there. So the fire can find a spot and travel through the building very quickly."
