Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Dylan Cease Leave With Injuries
Dylan Cease exited the top of the fifth inning against the Pirates due to left hamstring discomfort. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was struck on the elbow by a Mitch Keller sinker in the bottom of the inning and was immediately replaced. The team reported Cease’s issue as left hamstring discomfort and reported Guerrero’s diagnosis as a right elbow contusion. X-rays for Guerrero returned negative for a fracture. Toronto has had extensive injuries, with multiple players on the injured list and several season-ending or long-term absences. Cease has a strong durability record with no 15-day injured list placements since 2019. Guerrero has also avoided the injured list throughout his major league career and has produced consistently across recent seasons.
"Cease is well-known for his impressive durability. The right-hander has never been on the 15-day injured list since debuting with the White Sox in 2019. He did spend a bit of time on the 10-day IL in early 2021, but that was for COVID-19 reasons. Cease has made 32+ starts in every season since the shortened 2020 campaign."
