VTA Headquarters Relocation Opens Door to Hundreds of New Affordable Homes on North First Street
VTA will relocate about 500 employees from its North First Street headquarters into a Downtown office space later this year. The move will open the agency’s 17-acre campus, used for operations since the early 1990s, for phased redevelopment. The first phase will develop a 330-unit affordable apartment project on 2.5 acres led by Eden Housing. Future phases across the full site could add as many as 1,100 housing units, along with office and retail components. Eden Housing will use tax credits and grants from the California Department of Housing and Community Development for the initial phase. The plan supports transit-oriented development goals intended to increase ridership and provide housing near existing transit infrastructure, including related projects such as Berryessa.
"San Jose will welcome a significant shift in land use later this year when the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority relocates roughly 500 employees from its longtime North First Street headquarters into a Downtown office space."
