Southern Section Masters Meet: Clara Adams helps Long Beach Wilson break records
Clara Adams won the 400-meter dash at the Southern Section Masters Meet at Moorpark High, breaking the section record with a time of 51.98 seconds. She surpassed the previous mark by one hundredth of a second and credited her training and teammates. Later, Adams and teammates Brooke Blue, Brooklyn Fowler, and Saniah Varnado set a state record in the 4x400 relay, clocking 3:33.83 and beating the prior 3:35.49 mark held by Long Beach Poly from 2004. Rosary Academy finished second with 3:41.33. Adams ran the third leg, widened the lead, and handed off to Varnado for the anchor leg. The team qualified for state and planned a week of preparation for national record attempts.
"We already had a good lead when I got it but everyone was getting loud and I was pushing. I was thinking we could run in the high 3:30s. I'm proud of how well we did and hopefully we can do even bigger things at state."
