18-year-old allegedly brandishes gun during argument outside Mass. high school prom
A police officer at Indian Pond Country Club requested backup after reports of a person with a gun in the parking lot during the South Shore Technical High School prom. An 18-year-old man known to attendees argued with two female students. The confrontation escalated when he threatened to run over a student with a car and then displayed a black firearm, pointing it toward the sky and appearing to chamber a round. He fled the scene, but police interviewed witnesses and tracked him to his home in Randolph. He surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody the same night. No injuries were reported, and police increased presence at the event while the investigation continued with further legal authorization sought for searches and seizures.
"Around 7:15 p.m., a police officer on-site at the Indian Pond Country Club, located at 60 Country Club Way, called for patrol unit assistance after reports of an individual with a gun in the parking lot, according to a statement from the Kingston Police Department."
"The 18-year-old man, who was not a student but "was known to attendees," got into an argument with two female students in the parking lot, police said. As the confrontation escalated, the man reportedly threatened to run over a student with a car before displaying a black firearm. Police said the man had pointed the weapon toward the sky and appeared to chamber a round."
"The man then fled the scene, police said. Although no injuries were reported, the incident prompted an increased police presence at the dance and a law enforcement alert, authorities noted. Following witness interviews, police tracked the suspect to his home in Randolph, where he "surrendered peacefully," according to the police statement."
""There is no known public safety risk at this time," police said. Authorities have not released the suspect's identity. The investigation remains active, with detectives pursuing further legal authorization to carry out searches and seizures related to the case, police said."
