'Then it hit us, we've won a million' - Wexford syndicate on moment of historic scratch card win
A Wexford group won Ireland’s first €1 million on the All Cash Millionaire scratch card after buying the ticket at Applegreen Gorey in Ramstown Lower. The news came while driving home, described as the longest car journey ever as the reality of the win sank in. A spokesperson said a syndicate lead initially joked about €50,000, but checking the scratch card revealed the prize was a million. After the win, the group planned a big holiday and long-awaited home renovations. Celebrations were held at the store on May 19. In the same county, another customer won €50,000 on a €5 Wordplay Mystery Multiplier Scratch Card received as a gift, and planned to travel around Ireland to celebrate.
"The group who purchased the winning ticket in Applegreen Gorey in Ramstown Lower, got the news that they had won €1 million while driving home, where they described it as the "longest car journey ever" as the reality of their win sank in."
"A spokesperson for the winning group said what started as a joke quickly became an unforgettable moment. "The syndicate lead jokingly told us we'd won €50,000, but as we looked at the Scratch Card, I remember saying, 'There's no €50,000 there, you've made a mistake. Look again' Then it hit us, we've won a million!" they said."
"After securing the prize, the group are looking forward to marking the historic win with a big holiday and getting started on long-awaited home renovations. Following the National lottery's announcement, special celebrations were recently held at the winning store, Applegreen Gorey on Tuesday, May 19 to mark the historic moment."
"In addition to the €1 million scratch card win, the county saw another lucky customer take home a big win as a man who received a €5 Wordplay Mystery Multiplier Scratch Card as a gift, which won him the €50,000 top prize. The winning scratch card was purchased as a gift from his mother at Cullen's Gala in Adamstown, Enniscorthy."
