Crowdfunding drive launched in north Mayo town to fund CCTV system
A crowdfunding campaign in Foxford, County Mayo, seeks about €40,000 to install a CCTV system across several locations in the north Mayo town. Organisers are asking local residents and businesses for one-off donations to support the initiative. Jason Howley, a Foxford native and businessman, is leading the fundraiser and has prepared a draft proposal for community approval. The system would be installed and maintained by ETI Security Systems Ltd. Footage would be securely retained by the company and accessed only during active Garda investigations. Similar CCTV systems in Killala are reported to be working successfully and are supported by Killala Community Alert and Gardaí. Howley also founded a digital platform for reporting local concerns to public representatives.
"Footage from these cameras can only be obtained when there is an active investigation with all associated Gardai pulse references. No other person or persons will have access to the footage other than the Gardai,"
"Organisers estimate the project will cost in the region of €40,000, with cameras proposed for several locations around the north Mayo town. Appeals are now being made to local residents and businesses for one-off donations to support the initiative."
"Under the Foxford proposal, installation and maintenance would be carried out by ETI Security Systems Ltd. All footage would be securely retained by the company and would only be accessible in the event of an active Garda investigation."
"Similar systems have been installed elsewhere in the county, including in Killala, where a community-driven campaign led to the rollout of CCTV that is now reported to be working successfully and is supported by Killala Community Alert and Gardaí."
