Feds charge former L.A. nonprofit worker with possessing fentanyl, meth near MacArthur Park
Federal prosecutors allege Christopher Barret Johnson, 42, possessed fentanyl with intent to distribute after police stopped him while he drove a BMW near MacArthur Park. The criminal complaint charges him with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. Authorities say Johnson previously worked for People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), a nonprofit that provides street outreach and helps connect people to interim and permanent housing. PATH stated Johnson’s employment ended in September 2023 and said he falsely represented himself as a current employee. PATH said it has no current contracts or services in the MacArthur Park area, with outreach services ending in June 2024. PATH also denied claims that it serves as a vendor distributing syringes in MacArthur Park.
"Renner added that PATH does not have any current contracts or services covering the MacArthur Park area. The last services provided in that area were outreach services, which he said ended in June 2024. The organization also rebutted the U.S. attorney's office's claim that PATH also serves as a vendor distributing syringes, including in MacArthur Park, saying that claim is false."
