Ed Orgeron is returning to LSU as member of old USC pal Lane Kiffin's staff
Ed Orgeron is returning to LSU as a special assistant for recruiting and defense under new head coach Lane Kiffin. Orgeron previously led LSU to a 15-0 national championship season in 2019 with Joe Burrow and compiled a 51-20 record before leaving after the 2021 season. Kiffin and Orgeron have worked together at multiple schools, including USC, where Orgeron was retained by Pete Carroll and later became recruiting coordinator. Orgeron’s coaching path includes playing defensive line at Northwestern State, starting as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, and serving on staffs at Miami and Syracuse before joining USC’s defensive line coaching staff.
"When Carroll replaced Hackett before the 2001 season, he retained Orgeron on his staff and eventually also made him recruiting coordinator. Also in 2001, Carroll hired Kiffin, who started as tight ends coach and eventually worked his way up to offensive coordinator."
