Christian conservative GOP candidate accused of secret same-sex relationship with online hookup - LGBTQ Nation
A Republican U.S. House candidate Abraham Enriquez denied claims that he had a year-long, uncommitted romantic relationship with a man he met via Grindr. A right-leaning website published screenshots of alleged 2017 text messages, stating the phone number matched Enriquez’s personal cellphone and voter registration records, while Enriquez disputed the messages’ authenticity. The screenshots allegedly included statements about living with other men, uncertainty about coming out, and reactions to sexual arousal. In 2017, Enriquez was a political science major and student body vice president at Abilene Christian University. A January 2026 video from Trinity Church said he vetoed a bill allowing an LGBTQ+ student group, citing support for traditional marriage and family religious background.
"The article, published on the website The Current Revolt, contained screenshots of text messages allegedly shared between Enriquez and the man he met on Grindr in 2017. While the publication reportedly verified that the number in the text messages matches that of Enriquez's personal cellphone and the cellphone number listed on his voter registration records, Enriquez denies the veracity of the text messages."
"The screenshots allegedly show the now-Republican candidate saying that he cannot host because he lives with four other guys, expressing uncertainty over whether he'll ever come out, and responding that it's "pretty intense" yet "perfect" after the other man comments on how sexually aroused Enriquez makes him."
"In 2017, Enriquez was majoring in political science and serving as ACU's student body vice president, the publication stated. In a YouTube video posted in January 2026 by Lubbock-based Trinity Church, Enriquez mentions vetoing a bill that would have allowed a LGBTQ+ student group to form at the university."
"In the video, he says he felt compelled to veto the bill because he supports "traditional marriage" and is the grandson of a preacher. He said he considered resigning after students subsequently sought his impeachment, but his mother threatened to bar him from her home if he did because she raised him"
