A new Apple TV+ comedy all about Harlem restaurant Melba's is in the works
Apple TV+ is developing American Comfort (working title), a scripted comedy series inspired by Melba Wilson’s life. Kenya Barris will write and executive produce the series, with Oprah Winfrey and Aaron Kaplan also serving as executive producers. Danielle Brooks will star as Melba and serve as an executive producer. The series will focus on the heart, humor, and hospitality that helped transform Wilson’s Harlem soul food restaurant into a global culinary landmark. It will portray how the restaurant became embedded in the community’s cultural fabric over two decades. Melba Wilson, a Harlem native, gained experience working at Sylvia’s before opening Melba’s nearly 20 years ago. Her chicken and waffles, made with an eggnog batter and served with strawberry butter and maple syrup, helped bring national fame and included a win over Bobby Flay on Throwdown!

While her menu boasted mouthwatering staples like fried catfish, Lowcountry collards and smothered pork chops, it was her legendary chicken and waffles that catapulted her to national fame."
