Brody Bumila, a 6-foot-9 left-handed pitcher from Bishop Feehan in Massachusetts, is gaining attention in draft projections. Boston is linked to selecting him at No. 20 overall in a mock draft based on the “don’t miss the guy in your own backyard” idea. Bumila has been moving up boards due to high-octane, hard-to-hit heat and a fastball-heavy approach, while showing more changeups and sliders in his most recent start. In a matchup against Xaverian, he struck out 14 batters through six innings, then allowed four runs after walking three in the seventh, but Bishop Feehan won in extras. Scouts noted his low three-quarter arm slot and fastball “ride,” while concerns remain about limited offspeed usage and durability after a UCL injury.
"“Leaning into the 'don't miss the guy in your own backyard' idea here,” Mayo wrote. “Bumila has been racing up boards thanks to high-octane and unhittable heat from a 6-foot-9 frame. He's been very fastball-heavy, but did show off more changeups and sliders in his most recent start.”"
"Bumila struck out 14 batters through the first six innings, but got in a jam when he walked three in the seventh. He allowed four runs in the inning, but Bishop Feehan eventually won the game in extras. He allowed just one hit. “My performance was fine. Just slipped in the last inning,” Bumila said. “But that happens. I just think I went too many pitches. But we got the win after that.”"
"Law noted that Bumila threw fewer than 10 offspeed pitches during the game. He said Bumila gets some “ride” on his four-seam fastball, which comes from a low three-quarter arm slot. “Bumila's upside is tantalizing - the size, the athleticism, the potential for a 70 or better fastball all point to an above-average starter,” Law wrote. “But he doesn't seem to have a present average secondary pitch, and I can't predict more durability for him than the average high school arm when he's already had a UCL injury.”"
