A list of the 100 greatest novels published in English was created from votes by authors, critics, and academics worldwide. A total of 172 participants submitted their top 10 novels of all time, limited to works published in English. Participants ranked their choices in order of preference. Titles were scored based on how often they were voted for, then adjusted with a weighting based on individual ranking positions. The resulting scores produced an overall ranked list of 100 books. The list is intended to prompt discussion about which novels should be included or excluded, and about representation across genres such as science fiction and romance.
