Popular Wexford pub promises to keep the 'pints flowing' after premises is put on the market for 650,000
The White House Bar, a long-established pub and community institution on the east side of the River Slaney, has been placed on the market for €650,000. The pub has been associated with the Freeman family for many years, and the licence later moved into a company structure. Since 2023, Nicky Murphy has been the proprietor of the busy establishment. After the sale advertisement circulated online, residents and pub-goers expressed dismay, describing the pub as a welcoming “home from home” with great staff, celebrations, and safe returns home. Murphy confirmed that despite the sale, events, pints, and music will continue until further notice, with business as usual this weekend.
"The White House Bar is a well-known, long-established pub and community institution on the east side of the River Slaney. For many years, the pub was associated with the Freeman family, before the licence moved into a company structure to oversee operations. However since 2023 Nicky Murphy has been the proprietor of the busy establishment."
"When the advertisement first made its rounds on social media, comments were inundated with residents and pub-goers who were dismayed by the news. One user wrote: "I am devastated to hear this news, as a young lad from town town with not that much available for young adults like myself, going in every Thursday and the odd weekend the craic is mighty and everyone is so good and the staff is amazing. Wishing the whole team .""
"Another comment read: "Yet again, something good comes to Enniscorthy and its taken from us, a place where everyone got together and had many celebrations. A place home from home, always looked after and minded. No matter the state you got in, the lads made sure you got home safe. Yet again Enniscorthy is punished.""
""The rumours are true, but before anyone starts trying to buy the stools out from under us it's business as usual at the White House Bar this weekend. So whether the pub is for sale, sold, or staying exactly where it is, the pints are flowing, thus music is on, and the weekend is looking very healthy indeed," he said."
