Jared Shuster was outrighted by the Cardinals to Triple-A Memphis for the second time this season. He can decline the assignment for free agency, though he previously declined that option in mid-April. Shuster has made four MLB appearances across two roster stints, pitching multiple innings in three outings and allowing two earned runs. He has 7 2/3 MLB innings with six hits and two unintentional walks, but only two strikeouts and a 3.5% whiff rate. A 2020 first-round pick, he was valued for pitchability and a plus changeup, but limited swing-and-miss kept him in a depth role. He has moved from Atlanta to Chicago to Oakland to St. Louis, and he has a 5.12 MLB ERA and a 15% strikeout rate. He is out of options and must clear waivers to be sent to the minors.
"Shuster carries a 5.12 earned run average with a 15% strikeout rate across 149 1/3 MLB innings. He has a 5.45 ERA over parts of five Triple-A seasons, including this year's 9 2/3 frames of nine-run ball in Memphis. Shuster is out of options and needs to clear waivers each time a team wants to assign him to the minors."
