Apple cuts support for three popular devices: Is yours on the list?
Apple has updated its vintage and obsolete product lists, which can reduce access to official repairs, replacement parts, and service support. The MacBook Air 13-inch from 2017 is now classified as vintage, making repairs dependent on parts availability through Apple Stores or authorized service providers. Apple also placed all versions of the iPad mini 4 and the 32GB Apple TV HD on the obsolete list, ending official repair and service support for those models. Apple defines vintage as products no longer distributed for more than five years, and obsolete as products stopped for sale more than seven years ago. For obsolete products, Apple discontinues hardware service and service providers cannot order parts. Some devices may still receive software updates, and certain Mac laptops may qualify for battery-only repairs for up to 10 years after sales end.
"'Products are considered obsolete when Apple stopped distributing them for sale more than 7 years ago,' Apple explains on its support page. 'Apple discontinues all hardware service for obsolete products, and service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products.' Apple says customers can typically obtain repairs and replacement parts for iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, AirPods and other devices for at least five years after the products are last sold."
