Instead, I found myself swept up and along, entering an almost trancelike state. All of our voices seemed to become one; our candles appeared to be a single flame.
The whole experience was beautiful but also unsettling. I saw that I, in common with every human being, am capable of losing my faculties of perception and individual discernment when participating in a large group activity that involves intense shared emotion.
