The GOP has allowed Trump to expand his authority. Here's where they're pushing back
"Somebody needs to be held accountable. This is our job. This is part of oversight. That's pretty straightforward."
"Our lobsterman, our blueberry growers, our potato farmers will pay the price,"
"The velvet glove, red carpet treatment for Putin and then the condescending, boorish behavior that the president and the vice president has done towards Zelenskyy it's a contrast,"
"You'd have to be smoking wizard weed to vote for that,"
Republican control of Congress has often yielded little opposition to President Trump even when actions touched areas reserved to lawmakers. A recent Pentagon strike on an alleged drug boat prompted calls from Sen. Thom Tillis for accountability and oversight. Sen. Susan Collins criticized tariffs that harm lobstermen, blueberry growers, and potato farmers and supported rolling back tariffs on Canada. Sen. Josh Hawley warned of a massive crisis if enhanced health-care subsidies expire. Rep. Don Bacon criticized a soft approach toward Putin compared with treatment of Zelensky. Some senators also resisted calls to end the filibuster.
