Crewe responded to league setbacks by routing Chesterfield 7-1, Emre Tezgel netting a hat-trick including two goals inside six minutes. Stevenage continued a strong League One start with a 5-1 victory at AFC Wimbledon, Gassan Ahadme scoring twice. Crystal Palace Under-21s drew 3-3 with Bromley thanks to Zach Marsh but lost 4-3 on penalties. Leyton Orient beat holders Peterborough 3-1 despite playing with 10 men. Plymouth, Swindon, Luton, Gillingham and Port Vale also recorded notable wins across the ties.
